Pak appeals for relief aid for displaced in FATA


GENEVA: Up to one million people are displaced in northwestern Pakistan where militants are feeding on local discontent and strife, local officials and humanitarian workers warned on Tuesday. Officials from Pakistan's North West Frontier Province appealed for international relief aid at an unprecedented meeting with relief agencies and donor countries in Geneva. "We are hearing a lot of pledges and promises made from the international community to Pakistan, and many of them are for security, for the police and the army, but the civilians are not getting what they are supposed to," said Sitara Ayaz, minister for social welfare and development in the province. "In our province we need more support and help from the international community," she said after the two-day meeting in Geneva.

OGRA proposes cut in POL prices

ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has prepared a summary to reduce petrol product price by Rs 3 to Rs 6 per litre.

According to sources, OGRA proposed reduction in petrol price by Rs. 3 to Rs.4 per litre and diesel and kerosene oil prices by Rs 5 to Rs 6. OGRA would forward the summary to oil and gas ministry, which after reviewing the recommendations will forward it to finance ministry. Prime minister will give his approval on April 30.

Babar Ghauri for immediate halt to violence in Karachi

KARACHI: Leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Senator Babar Ghuari has called for putting an immediate end to the rioting across the metropolis city of Karachi.

Talking to Geo News, he termed the happening of violent incidents in the city as alarming.

He appealed to the people to maintain calm and urged the authorities to control the situation in the metropolis.

CM Sindh takes notice of rioting in Karachi


KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, taking notice of the incidents of violence in Karachi on Wednesday, has ordered to take stern action against the miscreants. According to sources, he directed the police and rangers to go after the elements taking law into their hand and show no leniency to those disturbing the peace of the city.

Rehman Malik orders for report on Karachi violence

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior Affairs Rehman Malik has directed the concerned authorities to submit report on the loss of lives in Wednesday’s unrest in Karachi.

According to the spokesman of Interior Ministry, Rehman Malik has ordered DG Rangers Sindh to deploy additional force in those parts of the city which are most affected by violence.

The Minister also said that strict action will be taken against the alleged land mafia for what it was said the involvement in the violent incidents.

Karachi violence toll reaches to 23

KARACHI: At least 23 people were killed and 22 others wounded as violence broke out in different parts of Karachi on Wednesday.

While enraged people torched several vehicles in various parts of the city.

Shops and markers started to close early as the violence spread from one place to other.

The process of unending firing erupted in North Karachi where two activists of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were found shot dead.
